Be More Chill (Musical) Wiki

This page is about Jeremy's SQUIP specifically. For SQUIPs in general, see Squips.

"Everything about us is going to be wonderful!"
―The SQUIP, in The Pitiful Children

The "SQUIP" (Super Quantum Unit Intel Processor) is a super-computer inside Jeremy Heere's head. Its purpose is to help him become popular and win the love of his crush, Christine Canigula.

The SQUIP is manipulative, clever, and overall, commanding. It isn't until The Play that we see the SQUIP will go to extreme levels to do what it was programmed to do, such as giving the entire cast of the school play Squips. It claims this is to make it easier to manipulate the people around Jeremy, including Christine, but it most likely has ulterior motives.

Later on, after the events of Voices in My Head, The SQUIP is then deactivated by the Mountain Dew Red that Michael Mell used to get rid of him.

Physical Appearance

The SQUIP can look and sound like whoever Jeremy wants. When activated for Jeremy, its default appearance is Keanu Reeves, both looking and sounding like him. Some examples it gives of other forms he can appear as include Sean Connery, Jack Nicholson, and a "sexy anime female." Off-Broadway, Sean Connery and Jack Nicholson were replaced by Princess Leia and Zack Morris from 'Saved by the Bell', while in Broadway previews they were replaced by Batman and Beyonce. In the Broadway and West End productions, Batman and Beyonce stayed and Sexy Anime Female was replaced with Sexy Anime Cat Girl With A Tail.

Trivia

  • Jeremy can communicate to the SQUIP telepathically
  • SQUIPs are originally from Japan
  • Unlike in the book, Jeremy can physically see his SQUIP
  • The outfit in the picture above is from the SQUIP 's entrance. He wears this until the beginning of Sync Up.
  • Joe Tracz claims that it is unknown if the SQUIP's motives were to take over the world, but it does wish for everyone in the world to own a Squip (he compares this to how Apple wants everybody to have their products).
  • It was purchased illegally at a Payless ShoeSource from the cashier. It was given to Jeremy in a box for women's running shoes, either AirWalk or Nike depending on the day the musical was shown (the brand was switched to Champion in the revival)
  • In the "Red Solo Cup" event, Stewart Clarke confirms that his version of the SQUIP genuinely wanted to help at the beginning, but began to deter from that motive. He also states that the SQUIP becomes scared during its deactivation even though it can be seen giggling.
